Apple has refused to allow Time Inc. to sell subscriptions to it's magazines from within an iPad app according to a story by Peter Kafka. They were set to launch a subscription version of it's Sports Illustrated iPad app but Apple rejected it at the last minute, forcing them to sell single copies with iTunes as the middleman.

So what happened? The Time Inc. insiders I talked to don't have a clear answer, presumably because they can't get one from Apple itself. One theory: Apple is concerned about the publisher's plans for the consumer data it would collect with each subscription. A darker one: Steve Jobs loves the idea of digital magazines and wants to control the market for himself.

Apple today released an update to iOS for the iPad. Sync your iPad then check for the update. The update fixes the following:

- Improved Wi-Fi connectivity
- Fixed an issue that could prevent copy and paste of single-page PDF attachments in Mail
- Addressed an issue that could cause video playback to freeze
- Improved reliability of video-out when using iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter
- Added Bing as an option for Safari's search field

Let us know how the update works for you!

SplashID from the developer is ...
"Think of SplashID as your safe on the iPad. You can store and lock sensitive information - not just usernames and passwords but credit card data, account numbers, registration codes, prescriptions, and much more."

They developers have created some video tutorials which you can view here and here.

I've been a devoted user of Taskpaper OS X app ever since Daring Fireball's John Gruber talked about it a few years ago. Unlike other to do list / organizers that have complicated systems or lots of items to enter, Taskpaper is very simple, yet very good at what it does. When I read that TaskPaper was coming to the iPhone and iPad, I just had to get my hands on it to try it out.
